Mothership Motherf***ers.

This is insane. Criminally insane? Just maybe but more on that later.

It pisses me off that I have friends who literally gave Jon Ossoff $5 a week and it was torched (h/t Van Jones) on completely greedy and incompetent consultants who abuse the progressive community online in a manner that makes Donald Trump look kind and honest.

Let’s to the numbers.

This is the link to the FEC report for Jon Ossoff’s campaign and their disbursements to Mothership Strategies (did you get any really crappy borderline dishonest (more on that later too) emails from Ossoff’s Campaign?

Turns out that the losers (I call them this because they lost) charged MILLIONS of dollars to the Ossoff campaign? How much? Well, I asked them for a comment and reply (ironically they don’t respond to emails.) So here’s my guess.

Well, there’s millions in March alone. I am not alone in my outrage on this and another article estimates that in total they were paid over $4,000,000. For what was at the most six months work.

What’s amazing is that according to this link, this consulting firm was

Ossoff paid Dem firm more than Republican Karen Handel’s campaign spent the entire election

Let’s let that sink a bit.

A Democratic firm took more money from a Congressional special election (and lost) than the Republican spent on THEIR ENTIRE CAMPAIGN.

So what did Motherfucker Strategies do for their money? Well, it’s kind of hard to tell because yesterday they had Ossoff Campaign ALL OVER their site and now they have wiped it completely.

It appears they did Facebook ads, email content and other online work for Ossoff. Let’s say it took 10 people and each person was paid $100,000 a year. That’s $100,000 a month in salaries so I could honestly see paying them $800,000 for four months work.

If they were good.

If they won.

But these guys are nothing but incompetent pond scum who can’t answer a query and also 48 hours later are cashing their checks and distancing themselves from the loss.

Pathetic.

Now, here’s where this gets fun.

Do donors have a legal case against Mothership Strategies and the campaign for wasting assets? A lawyer I spoke with said yes. And there is another legal angle in the works.

Donations weren’t plummeting.

The definition of false advertising in the State of Massachusetts:

(2) Any person or other legal entity subject to this act fails to disclose to a buyer or prospective buyer any fact, the disclosure of which may have influenced the buyer or prospective buyer not to enter into the transaction; or

So, would donors have given money if in fact the campaign was sitting on millions in cash (and rumor is ended up with millions?)

Would donors have given if they had been made aware that the firm creating these ads was getting paid in excess of $4,000,000 and that their money was NOT going to help elect anyone but straight into their pockets?

It pisses me off that some many of my fellow Democrats got robbed by Ossoff and his team.

Do they have legal liability? I certainly hope so.

NOTE —- I reached out to Mothership in fairness and was more than wiling to have a calm conversation with them. They never replied but I am still (and would love to) hear their side of the story.

UPDATE: This is the last post from Mothership on Facebook and it makes me throw up a little in my mouth – this is a great strategy – hey, we’re all in this together, we all volunteered our time. (cough cough – sorry got to run deposit my $4,000,000 and then I’ll see you at the cash bar.)

  1. They did have an open bar event at a bar in DC (Franklin Hall) to watch the election results come in. Free beer all night. They also tweeted about the party like 10 times.

  2. Dude, read the description, They did the digital media buy. They didn’t keep $4 million. They got a commission from the ad buys (likely in the 6% – 12% range) of the buy. A lot of money, for sure, but a lot of work as well.

Do you freak out like this when mail consultants or tv consultants receive payments that get made to printers and TV stations?

    1. I understand what they did but I want to see the breakdown – they probably got more like 20% to be honest (and which case yes I will freak out) and actually yeah, I do when they get outrageous commissions on the printing and media as well — it’s almost impossible to spend $3,000,000 effectively online in that short a period of time though as you may well know

  3. Yes its like this story. “A Japanese company and a North American company decided to have a canoe race on the St. Lawrence River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile. The North Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat.

A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the North American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing. So, North American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.

They advised that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

To prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team’s management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder.

It was called the”Rowing Team Quality First Program“, with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices, and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles. Humiliated, the North American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments in new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year’s racing team was outsourced to India.”

  4. My take: the Democrat Party gets paid to lose, and they are fine with that, as long as the insiders
are well compensated. The *could not have been serious* with that Ossoff drone. We are being
    played, still and always.

  5. Sorry, but it has been pretty clear ever since Obama sold out the left in 2009 that anyone who donates to the Democratic Party who isn’t wealthy is an idiot. Even Bernie is giving money to the thoroughly corrupt DNC. Give your money to a truly reputable local charity where it might actually do someone some good.
